I love your articles Rebecca, I am married to an Italian man and have had similar experiences both in Europe and the US. I am however less fearful in Europe as it's more microagressions there than outright hand on gun, ready to shoot vibe these wanna be slave capture patrol thugs with a badge down here. I also find travel traumatising, the snide remarks and attempts to delegitimise us are so over the top. Keep fighting and you are not alone. :)
